I finally got around to trying it, and I’ve realized that the “open with” option is absent from the right-click menu for some reason. I’m trying to find out why, but so far no luck. I checked the registry key, and it’s intact and should be giving me the option. I hate Windows.
Edit: So after a lot of searching, I discovered that I must have had Notepad++ set up wrong, because I found a registry entry from Notepad++ in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT \ .bat
I didn’t want to just delete the value, so I ended up uninstalling Notepad++ from my PC entirely, and the “open with” option returned, and the registry entry disappeared. Notepad++ is a popular app, so I feel like a lot of the people I found by searching who have the same problem might have this app installed with the registry entry to remove “open with” from the .bat file extension specifically. I knew something was up because I tested other files on my PC, and “open with” was still there. So frustrating, but your solution works now! Thanks!
I totally agree with you about Windows. Even Microsoft’s forums are generally unhelpful if you don’t want to use their OS they way they think you should use it. I’m gradually switching to Linux and will not be using Windows 11. Whatever minor conveniences I may miss out on are worth moving to an OS built with users in mind and with a friendly community of people who are actually helpful.
I just used it. It was easy enough to edit/remove metadata, which is all I want to do for now. It reminds me a bit of a Windows 95 era app, which is the time period when I became acclimated to Windows software.
Anyway, it took just a few seconds to do what I want to do. I’m still quite baffled why removing/editing metadata in a mp4 is unsupported in Windows. It seems like such a basic thing.
Hi, Thank you so much for your help, but when I double click the .bat file, it just opens it inside Notepad++
I made sure to select “all files” and use the .bat extension, but no dice.
Any idea why?
Here’s what my folder looks like with the mp4 renamed “INPUT.mp4”
Here’s what my .bat document looks like
I’m lost…
Yep, I actually got locked out of an old account where I didn’t use my real name. I was also friends with a drag queen who used her professional name, the name everybody knew her by, for her account. She was forced to show her ID and then change it to her real name. I could never get used to that because no one ever called her by her real name.
Personally, I’d never show them my ID, no matter what.
Libredirect user here (casual).
All of this only makes sense if you’re redirecting to a frontend, right? Not an alternative platform? For instance, it would be nice to redirect all Goodreads links to Bookwyrm, but I’m not sure if this is possible. (Already got it set to redirect to Biblioreads, but just curious since Bookwyrm is what I actually use.)
This is the second “article” I’ve read from this site that turned out to be an ad. This made me check OP’s post history, and it’s nothing but promotional content from this one site. I feel like this should be reported. This is supposed to be a community-driven forum with genuine content, not somebody’s advertising platform.
I was about to comment that I don’t know how to do that, but it looks like openwrt actually has its own forums.
Still not ready to do this on the spot, but this is another thing worth educating myself about, thanks
Another user recommended an ASUS. I’m probably not going to find one here on Facebook or Craigslist unless I travel to a bigger city, but I’ve had good luck on ebay. In fact, one of the reasons I lack money is that I just bought a laptop off ebay. I … kinda wish I hadn’t done that now, but who knew?
Like I told someone else, I’m probably going to prioritize getting my own modem now, but whenever I decide to upgrade my router, I can get an ASUS and then give this to a friend or neighbor and help them get set up.
This would have still been within my budget, but I was going to keep thinking about this until I had it set up, so I decided at one point to buy one locally.
First I bought the Netgear AC1900 because I thought “how bad can it be,” but when it wouldn’t let me proceed without creating a Netgear account, I immediately returned it for the TP-Link.
You’re right that it’s better to invest in things that last, but if I decide to upgrade, then hey, I can help a friend or neighbor with this same ISP “upgrade their equipment” and get them out of the lion’s den as well.
I actually just went and bought a TP-Link AX1500 lol
I move fast. Eventually I’ll be getting my own modem as well, but at least I got things close to how I had them before. In fact, seems even better!
Best of all, I’ve deleted that crazy app off my phone. I’m going to save your comment because then I’ll know which modem to get when I have more money!
Thank you!
