Yeah, I switched to them after mullvad (i I also tried airvpn before Proton) and it works great.

One extremely annoying thing with Proton VPN is that the port changes after every single (re)connection so you need to reconfigure your torrent client.

Fortunately there is a fork of the VPN client I use which automatically configures qbittorrent with the new port.

I have actually never seen bitwarden ever autofilling anything. I always have to do something to get it to input the credentials.

It also doesn’t prohibit Facebook from being a purely paid service.

Lemmy is really just an echo chamber.

Does it make sense to sync passkeys? If you sync them they lose their benefit of proving that you have a specific device

Might be because Firefox support for passkeys is fairly recent.

Then what were you referring to when you said fines based on annual revenue?

I can’t recall any law that fines based on that except the GDPR and similar EU laws but for non privacy related stuff.

Yes, you shouldn’t download every random keyboard app on the app store or play store.

It’s just that it would be insane for an even slightly well known company to do stuff like that. I would be happy (or concerned really) to be proven wrong but that would obviously require actual evidence.

beyond a measily small percentage of their annual revenue

If you are referring to the GDPR you should know that the penalty is actually really high. And it’s not like they can’t continue issuing fines if they don’t stop.

Also you have to keep the PR impact in mind. Proved tracking of keyboard input like that would be very concerning for even the people that say “I have nothing to hide”.

Google also doesn’t need to track that when they know everything else about our life’s.

That is what I thought they meant.

Tracking the keyboard like they said would be extremely invasive and extremely illegal.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

(And yes some local tracking is needed to predict words but that’s very different from collecting data)

Sure, but you would have to first get people to understand what VPNs are.

I am not fan of Google but that’s an enormous accusation. Do you have any evidence?

Odd that biometric authentication is needed when it’s worse from a security standpoint.

Here is their justification:

In order to maintain security for our users, the Authy application does not allow importing or exporting 2FA account tokens.

Users who want to import or export their tokens can follow this process:

  1. Login to the desired online account with your existing 2FA token.
  1. Disable 2FA in the app’s site.
  2. Re-enable 2FA again in the app’s site.
  3. Scan the QR code, optionally write the Authentication Key, this time on the desired 2FA App.

You don’t need a VPN for filtered DNS, since it’s you know, DNS.

The others don’t have anything to do with spyware or viruses

Kinda I guess.

Installing software to log and remotely access a computer is not illegal. Remember that the computer isn’t yours and that you signed a document permitting it.

Not restricting access and using it maliciously might be illegal though. Idk.

Some devices on Amazon are completely separate from the computer and can be powered from the wall.

But in the end, you should really look into switching jobs, if you worry about this.

Fyi: At least with windows, you can get devices which are pre configured straight from the manufacturer. It’s called Autopilot (and it’s awesome).

It’s fairly obvious it’s configured since you have to login to a corporate MS account so you don’t have to worry about it, but it’s just neat.

In what direction are you moving in? I can’t tell!
