Can no longer swipe back to inbox on iOS
Proton announced some new optional way to swipe automatically to next email, that you could turn on in settings. I can not find any setting to turn this on or off. However, since it was announced, the default swipe changed. When I open an email, I can no longer swipe back to the inbox. I can swipe to next message if it is not the last. This brakes my primary way to navigate, and it was not announced, and I can’t change it back. It’s extremely annoying. It’s also different from how Mail, Outlook and Gmail works, which all have the swipe action proton used to have, where you swipe back to the inbox.

SOcial MEdia, like advertising on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Twitter/X etc.

I followed them on Instagram for some reason 😅 I want to support them, but I don’t really like their message.

Proton Privacy’s annoying SoMe campaigns
I love Proton Privacy as a company, and most of their products. However, I hate their current SoMe campaign of just ranting and bashing on every other company out there. It’s so negative. Is more negativity really what we need? Can’t you just be positive and talk about all your good stuff - are you 100% sure the only way to grow is to do negative campaigns on everyone else? I’d really love for you to be different ❤️

Man damn I’m a Visionary user for a long time and contacted proton about the Photo as soon as it was announced; still nothing.

The first and only beta I’ve ever received of Proton products is the recent Mail for desktop; to anyone envying Visionary users their early beta access, don’t - most don’t get anything.

Week view for Calender on mobile
Is there really no way to view a week and / or work week on the Proton Calendar on mobile (iOS)? Who is only interested in either a day or month view? It’s just so weird, I feel I have missed a setting somewhere obvious. Even the new beta desktop app provides a week view, even though a work week view is still missing there too.

That’s a different application; this is feedback on the upcoming Proton Mail desktop app.

There was a post here just a few days ago about Proton Mail for desktop in beta on Windows and macOS, and coming to Linux as well next year.

I'm fine with the Proton Mail desktop client being an Electron app, but it still need to use desktop-based interactions. For example, when right clicking on the inbox, I expect to see options to mark all as read etc. - not an Inspect Element menu (that actually works and opens up devtools inside Proton Mail). And to those that can't cope with 3981 unread emails - I've just imported from Gmail, and a lot of them appeared as unread, which is why I'm now looking for a way to mark all as read.

I don’t understand how that page is any better than every other IP page out there - other than being more disappointing in not providing a clear answer since it’s actually made by the one entity who could have provided it.

I agree, but you really want Proton to run the site themselves to trust it and know that it’s updated and working.

It’s fine to check your IP, but that site does not say anything about proton. I’m specifically asking for something more in my OP.

Yeah I can do curl from my MacBook, but it’s not natural to do from an iPhone.

API / URL to check if I’m on ProtonVPN
Has Proton added this yet? Most competitors I’ve used always had it. Just go to some url and it will tell you if you’re on Proton. So far I’ve just been told to check my ip - this is cumbersome and often impractical. I don’t want to break my connection to compare, I’m on my mobile and VPN is on the WiFi router so if I just disconnects from WiFi that will send me to my carrier network so I can’t compare with the WiFi, I may have VPN also on mobile and want to verify that I stay on proton both on and off WiFi, etc. I think first of all, there should be a clear message when visiting proton sites if I’m on their vpn or not, at least on ProtonVPN, and there should also be a separate url like test.proton.me that tells me just this and is easy to curl etc.

I guess I’d like if Proton Drive users shared their experience here and where we’re at in development.

Proton Drive for macOS support thread
On Reddit, someone was mentioning information and questions in a Drive for macOS channel somewhere, but i can’t find it. Are there other channels / forums than Reddit / Lemmy where such discussion are taking place? X? - I’d hate to have to reinstall it. _Edit_: Also, I guess, this could stay as a thread for the topic here on Lemmy.

I do regret the timing of my Visionary, because from their posts it seemed like one would be able to use Drive both on Windows and Mac by now, but it’s still practically unusable on Windows and no where to be seen on Mac. I would have been better off waiting two years before upgrading to Visionary.

I would like searchable email content on mobile, calendar bridge, and a Drive that could actually sync my files between all my devices instead of just individually backup up each device to the cloud? The implementation of Drive is so strange to me I can hardly fathom the idea behind it. I must have used every other cloud drive under the sun over the years. No one has worked like Proton. Instead they have worked like expected.

> At Proton, we’re always working on new and innovative ways to protect the privacy and data of the Proton community. Yeah, I guess that’s nice. I do like Proton. I’d love for Proton to focus on completing some current services and make them actually usable though.

Just be aware that you will still leak IPv6 after setting this up.

A fair bit of questions unanswered.

  • Why shouldn’t we just enable Sentinel?
  • How do we disable it?
  • Will apps normally stay logged in?
  • How would the experience be across platforms when combined with Fido2 / Yubikey?

I wish Proton made an easy to use recovery sheet that we could print out, similar to 1Password.

They describe the solution in the link I provided for the desktop functionality for this; it should be fairly similar on iOS except for the limitations to background jobs.

Yes, I have the latest version. Yes, there is a search icon. No, it doesn’t search in content.

I’ve done several tests in words that only exist in content, not subject, and never get any search results.

Only searches for words that are also part of the subject or sender will get results.

As I understood this, it will not be a known, secure implementation? I felt advice against using it, but can’t remember from where or why.

When will mail content search come to iOS ?
I’ve moved most active and new accounts over to Proton, and I’d like to migrate all my old emails too, but before that I’ll need to be able to search mail content from mobile. This article covers the topic for desktop: https://proton.me/support/search I hardly ever use search or mail on desktop though - it’s usually on the go I’m looking for information. When is this coming to mobile apps?

I don’t think I mentioned selective sync, I’m just awaiting any news at all about the macOS beta rollout in general, since the Proton team decided to announce that it really was right around the corner - a month ago.

Status on macOS ProtonDrive beta? Delayed compared to expectations given.
So, a month ago or so a limited windows client for proton drive was released for everyone, and at ca the same time this statement was given about macOS beta: > [We'll be expanding the beta over the next days starting with visionary users and our goal is to release it all very soon.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ProtonDrive/comments/14xopob/comment/jrps8ev/) Further statements were made about how much quicker the rollout would be than for Windows. However, as a Visionary user, I’ve still heard nothing. Also, there are zero posts about macOS beta on Reddit, so it seems like hardly anyone have been given access to the beta so far. I don’t mind that it takes time. I just can’t fathom why it was necessary to tease it as just around the corner, making it seem like we would get it in a very short time? Who has anything to gain at all from these false promises? It’s annoying when a company I trust and rely upon does so poorly with communication.

For some reason I cannot see this comment if I’m browsing Reddit, it’s only available through this direct link here, so I assume that statement was a little too hopeful on time.

Yes there it was, thanks :)

Anyways, I guess the feature is based on Protons own DNS solution and that I cannot get it to work by rolling my own.

No that just seems like a general article about proton targeted for Norway, there was a specific article about how they now had enabled specific support for streaming NRK etc. The article isn’t important though.

No I’m not leaking anything according to any tests, although I’m aware there has been some reports of proton vpn leaking IPv6 dns while on my setup previously.

Cannot avoid geoblocks with Wireguard?
Not long ago, Proton had a news blog or email I cannot find that said ProtonVPN had now expanded support for watching streaming services and content like Disney+, NRK etc in Norway, and I see this support article up: https://protonvpn.com/support/watch-nrk-with-vpn/ I always use Proton through WireGuard instead of through the official app since I use a custom DNS setup to avoid ads etc. Do you need to be on Protons app / DNS to get streaming to work? I wish Proton allowed for custom DNS in their iOS app and I wish they said something about streaming services and geo blocks in the app.

Well done! Glad to see it. This is the way to build trust in security.

Well now I’m prepared to wait for 1-365 days until I get access to the beta! Hopefully sooner than later.

If you just read this comment chain you are replying to and the linked Reddit post, you’ll see the macOS beta has already started and are expanding currently.

Edit: according to your colleagues at least 🙏

From the Reddit post two days ago:

Starting today, we’re beginning the beta for our upcoming macOS desktop app for Proton Drive. As with the other Proton betas, we are starting with a number of Proton Lifetime accounts today, with Visionary users to be invited later.

And then a comment from proton a day later:

We’ll be expanding the beta over the next days starting with visionary users and our goal is to release it all very soon.

Do you know if there are specific times of day invites will be sent it or do I have to continue checking my proton mail for an invite every hour for the next month?

Fantastic, very happy to see you here in an official capacity! Welcome :)

That looks extremely promising, so most of their hard work getting desktop apps up must have been on the general solution, and translating that over to macOS is much easier? Might even get support for Linux sooner than expected.

I’m not sure it should properly be called a beta when even vision users haven’t got access yet, but yes! Based on the timeline of the Windows beta that’s why I suggested a year - maybe in six months I’ll get an invite as a Vision user and six months later it will be ready for release?

Annoying that no ARM version is available, but it shouldn’t be any mayor issue in theory. There shouldn’t be any mayor issues with file API between architectures.

This would have been fantastic just a few months ago, but I’ve started to use a new MacBook much more frequently than expected, and it will be a while until a MacOs app is ready (maybe a year from now?).

I hoped I could use Proton Drive for Windows through a Windows VM for now, but at least for Paralells you’ll install Windows for ARM on Apple Silicon, which is not supported by Proton Drive yet.

Another issue for me is that I typically have all files for all use cases on the same account, and then I’ll selectively sync various work, personal, customer projects etc on different devices.

You can sort of selectively sync on Proton Drive by choosing folders to be automatically downloaded locally and not.

However, all folder and files names are still visible on every device, which I don’t want at all.

I’m sure I could find it, but do you have a link? They do not link to it from their home page or support page.

Edit: This was meant to be a reply to “They are active on Mastodon” 😄

Wish they would get on Matrix though.

Are Proton still active on Reddit?
Both me two colleagues posted questions on various Proton subreddits the last days, and they are all blocked waiting for mod approval. Is moderation just much slower now with the lack of tools, or are Proton no longer officially active on Reddit? I wish they would set up their own Lemmy / Mastodon instance and take questions there instead of deferring to Reddit, Twitter and Instagram.
