It seems to have removed itself for me by now. While it can be easily removed I’m more concerned about the possible marketing strategies from Proton.

Honestly... this isnt the first time this has happened either. Been a paying customer for a long time now, and occasionally I get these upgrade buttons, which I am hoping are just bugs, as otherwise it would be very weird as I cannot upgrade to anything higher than Unlimited.

Cool project thanks for the recommendation!

Their slow development on Linux is due to them not having enough Linux developers, they stated this a while back on reddit at least.

I don’t find it likely that Proton will be adding Watch apps any time soon. So if that’s killer for you, then you might want to look for alternatives. Can’t vouch for Google though, it’s just a massive data harvester.

Thats good, but also scuffed at the same time… if why not just enable it for all paid users, rather than keeping it exclusive…?

Yeah that sounds correct. In my case I wanted to self-host a certain application, and need SMTP for the service to be able to send me password reset forms etc… While I can just use a throw-away email for this, i’d much rather use my own email :<

Just discovered that this feature is not available for Unlimited subscribers, but it is for Mail Essentials? Why would they not include this for the Proton Unlimited users? This is a bit infuriating tbh.

Nice illustration, thanks!

Also: I often see your name in Lemmy posts/comments, and just wanted to say thanks for contributing so much. You come with very valuable and factual information, as far I’ve seen - and I appreciate that :)

Have a nice day 🌻

Yeah that might be a good idea

But as far as I understand, thats only a worry for people running exit nodes? Or?

Didnt take long before someone connected, feels good to help!

Ah I see, good to know. I don’t think my country blocks them, but I’ll try to do some research. It seems like TOR has a nice overview over good and bad ISPs too, if one were to go the route of hosting through a company: https://community.torproject.org/relay/community-resources/good-bad-isps/

Wow this is neat! Wasn’t aware of this. Is this the same as running a full dedicated relay?

Have already installed and activated it, and will do so on more of my devices.

Are you running a Tor Relay?
Hiya, so been on the lookout for different services that I could help host for others to benefit from. I think TOR is a great project, and I'd like to contribute. So been thinking about hosting a TOR relay lately, and wondering how people's experience is with running one? Please correct me if I'm wrong - but as far as I know, it only becomes "scary" to host, if you were to host an exit node? And the only real requirement to host a relay is to have a good internet speed? Mainly wondering people's experiences with running a relay. Edit: Very well-timed and relevant upload from Techlore, on how to use Tor just dropped: https://youtu.be/K3wmLvny5tg

While I generally also try to live by that rule and only use Proton for its mail service. Having another Suite option that actually is private. Is what Proton needs to become for “normal” people to adapt to other options outside of Google, Microsoft etc…
