I agree and i never even go there, but i was alerted to an AMA. I’ve waited to see if news would trickle down in this community, but it didn’t. And a lot of what they mentioned there, are things that get often asked about here, so i decided to post the link. I’ve never posted anything concerning reddit before, and am not planning to do so again, but this was an opportunity to basically share a bit of a proton roadmap. I really like proton, but i would love them to share more of what they are doing and planning. I follow their blog, but they hardly ever post a roadmap.
I do sometimes see AMA’s being suggested on Lemmy, but none that i personally checked out, so i don’t know how many people respond to them. My guess is that it would probably depend more on how active a particular community is, since there doesn’t seem to be a dedicated AMA community here, rather than a smaller user base. Some communities are not very active, others are very lively. As for an AMA for Proton, i don’t think they have joined lemmy yet and unfortunately, no one on reddit asked them to join here :-(
While i understand the sentiment, that would make things even more difficult to ever happen, because they would be lacking funds. Yes, i feel proton is very pricey. However, they are a company i still really trust; they have the services that are very important for me; and i consider my being a paid consumer partly as a donation, to support and encourage them.
Quote from a mail that partly answers your questions:
What’s coming next in Proton Pass?
Password Sharing: You will be able to share your logins, secure notes, email aliases, and credit card information with other people, keeping your data end-to-end encrypted at all times.
Web app: This will let you conveniently manage your data or open Proton Pass in a full browser tab instead of the browser extension.
Desktop apps: With apps for Windows, Linux and macOS, you’ll have better offline support and better integration with your deviceʼs operating system.
They sent an email today and i quote:

Thank you for the link. While it’s hard to predict how much time it takes to develop things, it would be nice to have a sneak peek as to what they are working on exactly.
For the rest, i agree with you; like you, i’ve been using proton for years (paid), and recently upgraded to unlimited. (For people that find it very pricey, i can only say that i love their products, their customer service is good, and i also want to support their mission).
I asked about it too, read the answers here:
It seems that they still need to do some work to improve the vpn, not sure if they are actively working on that. I wish they had a roadmap for all their products, actually. Only occasionally i see one pop up on their blog.
Thanks for letting me know. Thankfully, for me the vpn is their least important product, but for many it could be an important issue when switching to linux.
Thank you, i will test it out! Just now, i did saw on a forum that through proton pass, apparently it’s not possible to actively use it as a mail address, only replying seems to work. I have no idea whether this is inherently how aliases work, or whether it is something that proton could implement in time.
Yes, the quantity can be absurd, though i usually use things like anonaddy. As for being save, i’m just not sure about this. The other day i read about wormgpt - like chatbot, but for malicious hackers - and i think that is pretty worrying. So far, you can check quite some signs that things are phishing attempts, because they are usually quite clunky, but things evolve. I used to read on r/scams to keep up with common scam tactics (also to warn my dad who hasn’t a clue about these things), but i haven’t found an alternative community on the fediverse so far.
Seems like they would first look if there is enough money and enough users to make it worthwhile, and then go looking for developers.
Don’t get me wrong, i have been a paying client for many years and really love the products and the company, but everything they say about linux… I don’t know, this just sounds like an excuse to continue to prioritize other things and get the linux users off their backs for a while longer.
