A marketing team within media giant Cox Media Group (CMG) claims it has the capability to listen to ambient conversations of consumers through embedded microphones in smartphones, smart TVs, and other devices to gather data and use it to target ads, according to a review of CMG marketing materials by 404 Media and details from a pitch given to an outside marketing professional. Called “Active Listening,” CMG claims the capability can identify potential customers “based on casual conversations in real time.”

Many people forgot, many others now think that he is the villain of the story just because he did what he had to do to save his life, a whole lot don’t care because ‘they have nothing to hide’. For what it’s worth, people who actually care about their privacy is a very small minority in pretty much all countries.

A WIRED analysis of leaked police documents verifies that a secretive government program is allowing federal, state, and local law enforcement to access phone records of Americans who are not suspected of a crime.

If you were using Signal just for SMS, none of your messages were secure anyway since the SMS protocol itself is not–defeating the purpose of signal. And if you had already convinced people to install Signal by using SMS as a caveat, you can just continue contacting them through the app.

I was able to convince pretty much everyone who matter in my life to install Signal and they all love it because WhatsApp has become too cluttered and spammy.

Same! There is a lot of misinformed Signal bashing going on. I can’t figure out why.

I really like Jitsi Meet and use it for any video conference calls. And Signal for one on one calls with friends and family.

Does anyone have info on what it does that main Meta apps already can’t?

It is pretty good! I use it and it does its job well and has pretty good privacy policies.

Discord is the worst option in terms of privacy, and since this is the privacy guides community, I am thinking that should be an important criteria to consider.

Postimages already has official plugins for several forum softwares. I am sure one of them could be tweaked for use in Kbin and Lemmy instances. And postimages themselves might help in this, if contacted.

I have for long used postimages.org whenever I needed one. But imgbb.com is also an equally good option.

I use Bitwarden in all my devices. Never gave me a reason to look for anything else.

There are a lot of good suggestions here. Just to add on to it, I have been using Skiff Pages as an alternative fog Google Docs for a while now, and I have been happy with it. They have a better UI and feels less clunkier than CryptPad. They also offer couple of other services such as Drive and email, which you can check out as well.
