Especially in US (but not only) people are trained by their capitalist master that ‘you are what you own’ and spending money is a way of living there. I’m sure you see it everywhere. People go absolutely crazy over brands like Marvel or Star Wars and spend thousands of dollars on useless gadgets. People go crazy over snickers and buy hundredths of pairs. People go crazy over phones and and take credit just to own the latests model. And the ads are there to program those people into wanting more and more things.
I don’t use signal to hide from the CIA. I use it to hide my data from Meta. Do you have any proof or even suspect signal of selling data to Meta/google/amazon? If not I don’t care.
This shouldn’t be the case. Using password manager shouldn’t mean you only have one password, it should mean you have less password to remember. I use password manager for all the insignificant pages/apps like lemmy, strava, netflix, spotify. If someone hacks them they can cancel my subscription and that’s about it. I don’t store password for my email, bank or amazon in my password manager.
